CHILDLINE 1098

CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) is the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development acting as the parent organisation for setting up, managing and monitoring the CHILDLINE 1098 service all over the country. CIF is the sole agency/body responsible for establishing the CHILDLINE service in the cities/districts of the country, monitoring of service delivery and finance, training, research and documentation, creating awareness, advocacy as well as resource generation for the service.

CHILDLINE 1098 service is a 24 hour free emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection. CIF undertakes replication of CHILDLINE, networking and facilitation, training, research and documentation, and Communications and Strategic Initiatives both at the national and international level
RCPDS as nodal agency to implement CHILDLINE 1098 in Virudhunagar district, a special initiative of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. RCPDS, as nodal, receive calls from children, the neighbors, friends, police, officials, women groups, youth clubs, NGOs, and others who hear about abuses and violence against children in Virudhunagar district and co-ordinate with other child line units across Tamilnadu.

There are number of cases of violation against children such as Child Marriages, Child Labour, Sexual and Physical abuse, Corporal Punishment, Trafficking etc., CHILDLINE 1098 have received calls from the affected people to address their problems. The outreach staffs members reach the spot and attend the children problems rescue and provide them safety, security, counseling, and also proper handing over of these children to Child Welfare Committee that is in charge of the children in distress.   Apart from responding to cases we are also involved in capacity building of homes wherein child in difficult circumstances are accommodated jointly with District Child Protection Unit for appropriate rehabilitation.
